"When you go deeply into the present, gratitude arises spontaneously,
even if it's just gratitude for breathing,
gratitude for the aliveness that you feel in your body.
Gratitude is there when you acknowledge the aliveness of the present moment."
-Eckhart Tolle

"Living in the moment brings you a sense of reverence for all of life's blessings."
-Oprah Winfrey

In this moment
bring curious attention
to the sensations of breathing
for the next three breaths

“As part of my “price of security” mind-set, I had long assumed that the only route to success was harsh self-criticism.  However, research shows that “firm but kind” is the smarter play.  People trained in self-compassion meditation are more likely to quit smoking and stick to a diet.  They are better able to bounce back from missteps.  All successful people fail.  If you can create an inner environment where your mistakes are forgiven and flaws are candidly confronted, your resilience expands exponentially”

Bring caring awareness to the sensations of your next 3 breaths

image witnessed by M. Lee Freedman

“At its core, mindfulness embraces heartfulness, as it requires being kind and compassionate to yourself and your experiences.  So often, we end up criticizing ourselves for how we are or what we feel, and that stops us from learning from our experiences. This judgmental or hypercritical perspective can leave us stuck, ashamed, or hypersensitive.
...
Mindfulness helps us accept ourselves as we are right now and, paradoxically, through acceptance, leads to possibilities for growth and change.”

-Lidia Zylowska, MD

Pause for 3 Mindful Breaths

image witnessed by M. Lee Freedman

"A general attitude of kindness and care help prevent the reinstatement of old habits of thinking by showing us that it is possible to approach unwanted experiences with a gentle curiosity and, in doing so, develop a different relationship to them.

Mindfulness is not just about paying (or shifting) attention but more about the quality of attention that is being paid.
See what happens when you practice being kind to your experiences, and gentle with yourself when old habits of mind threaten."

Pause
Notice the life-sustaining act of breathing for the next 3 breaths

“By slowing down and relishing the unfolding of every experience, you aren’t choosing to be less accomplished or productive than others.
You’re choosing to be accomplished and productive in ways they may not even understand.
You’re choosing to change what’s within your
own heart and mind, thereby becoming a part of the solution rather than a part of the problem.
By no longer rushing through, you’re choosing
to stop focusing so much of your energy on the wanting and yearning, the wishing it was done, the frustration with what hasn’t happened yet;
And to make, instead, the most of every experience as it unfolds at its own pace.”
-Nea Justice

Wishing you a peaceful evening

"When we become more aware of our thought patterns and start to untangle from them a bit, our hearts open up and there is an opportunity to recognize that we’re all connected to each other on this planet.
In this way, meditation becomes more than a solitary pursuit."

Enjoy 3 Mindful Breaths

image witnessed by M. Lee Freedman

"How we relate to our thoughts has a big impact on how our day unfolds, and also how we approach triggers in our lives.
By taking a few mindful moments, we can gain some space between us and our reactions, and have some freedom from what triggers us—we don’t have to respond the same way every time.
It’s a practice in breaking our habitual negative responses by first tuning in to how a thought or action makes us feel, and how it generates certain storylines in our minds.
We can step back for a moment and recognize: hey, that’s not a tried and true fact—it’s just a thought."

-Elisha Goldstein
